THE SHORT ANSWER

Start with this check.

Open a new web page on that computer. If it works, reload WhatsApp Web and check that the browser is up to date. Compare another network you are allowed to use before changing the session.

Signing out or clearing site data may require linking the computer again. Before doing that, confirm that you can access the phone associated with the account.

Mark each check to keep track during this visit.

01

Confirm the address and the symptom

Type web.whatsapp.com into the browser address bar. Note whether it fails to load, shows a connection warning or opens chats but cannot send. Do not scan sign-in codes from websites you do not recognise.

What to look for

Start with a known address and a specific symptom. Keep the warning text without copying private conversations.

02

Check Internet access on the computer

Open a new page to test the connection. If WhatsApp Web says the computer is disconnected, check that computer network. Internet working on your phone does not confirm that it works on the computer.

What to look for

If other websites also fail, resolve the computer connection before changing the WhatsApp session.

03

Check the browser and reload

Use an up-to-date version of a supported browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera or Safari. Save pending work before updating or restarting it, then reload WhatsApp Web.

What to look for

Record whether the warning changes. If you now see a message with one check mark, investigate delivery rather than a page loading failure.

04

Compare another authorised network

If possible, try the same page on another connection. Some networks restrict WhatsApp. At work or school, ask the administrator rather than disabling protections or trying to bypass their rules.

What to look for

If it only works on the second network, keep that comparison when asking for help. You do not need to change account settings to establish this difference.

When to stop and ask for help

If the page asks you to link the device again, follow the instructions in the app. For a persistent failure, record the browser, version, time and warning text for official support. Never share a verification code or a screenshot of the sign-in QR code.

Common questions

Should I sign out as soon as it stops connecting?

Check the network and browser first. Signing out changes another variable and may leave you unable to reconnect until you can link the computer again.

Does this cover the Windows desktop app?

This guide is for WhatsApp Web inside a browser. The installed app may have different settings and warnings.

What if the page loads but one message has one check mark?

Use the message status guide. One check mark means sent but not yet shown as delivered; it does not mean the whole website is disconnected.
