Create an inventory first
Check you can unlock both phones and access your accounts. List needed contacts, photos, documents, WhatsApp, authenticators and work apps. Review available space and a recent backup. Keep passwords and codes out of any shared inventory.
This list will reveal omissions later. A few familiar icons do not establish migration success.
Open the official assistant
Open Smart Switch on the Galaxy. If missing, obtain it through Galaxy Store or Google Play and verify Samsung as developer. Choose to receive from Galaxy/Android and follow sending prompts on the old phone; labels vary by version.
The Galaxy must be the receiver. Stop before confirming content if the roles are reversed.
Use a compatible connection
Use a compatible data cable or the wireless method offered by Smart Switch. Keep both phones nearby and sufficiently charged. Confirm expected prompts on your own devices rather than scanning codes from strangers.
If discovery fails, record the exact stage and check cable or method before repeating setup.
Select content and read the summary
Choose needed data types and read exclusions or warnings. Wait for transfer and content organisation to finish. If the new phone already has data, consider duplicates before repeating a whole category.
Record what the assistant reports copied and what remains. Compatibility depends on models and versions.
Verify content and access beside the old phone
Open old and recent photos at full size, find several contacts and open a document. Test important apps and complete their own sign-in or transfer procedures. Check line calls and texts separately.
Keep the old phone until checks are complete, a valid backup exists and account access works. Missing items can still be compared with the source.
When to stop and ask for help
For repeated connection failures, preserve the source and contact Samsung with models, versions and failing stage. Work accounts, authenticators and banking apps need their own instructions; an icon alone does not prove transfer.
