Start with this check.
Open a fresh page on the phone and another device using the same network. If neither works, investigate the network. If only the phone fails, check sign-in, settings and a second connection.
Do not press the router Reset button or erase work networks. Know a personal network’s password before forgetting it. Do not bypass certificate warnings by disabling protection.
Which situation matches yours?
Let’s go step by step.
0 of 5 checks completedMark each check to keep track during this visit.
Confirm the selected network
Find Wi-Fi or Internet in Settings and verify the network name. Move closer to the router to compare signal strength. Open a fresh page rather than relying on cached conversations.
Record connected, no Internet or authentication error. These states call for different checks.
Complete required network sign-in
On public Wi-Fi, review the sign-in notification and confirm the portal with the venue. Keep Google or banking passwords out of a page that should only provide network access.
Joining the signal can occur before you are authorised to browse.
Compare another device and connection
Open the same page on another device using that network. Then compare the phone on another authorised network or mobile data, accounting for cost. Keep the test website unchanged.
Two devices failing on one network point towards that network. One phone failing everywhere needs a device-settings review.
Reconnect without erasing saved networks
Turn Wi-Fi off and on, then restart the phone normally if necessary. If you manage the router, follow its restart instructions after notifying other users. Restarting differs from a factory reset.
Repeat the comparison and record which action changes the result.
Choose the next adjustment deliberately
If only your personal network fails and you know its password, consider forgetting and rejoining it. For managed networks or mandatory VPNs, give the administrator your comparisons first.
Avoid changing DNS, proxy and VPN simultaneously because you would lose the link between change and result.
When to stop and ask for help
When every device fails, contact the network operator. When this phone fails on several networks, contact its manufacturer with versions and messages, preserving settings before considering a reset.
Does a step differ from what you see? →Common questions
Do Wi-Fi bars prove Internet access?
No. They describe the wireless link, not provider or portal access.
Does forgetting Wi-Fi delete photos?
It is not a photo-erasure command, but saved connection details for that network are removed.
Should I always change DNS?
No. First separate network, device and service-specific failure.
