Start with this check.
In Settings → Wi-Fi, select the correct network and load a fresh page. Compare another device on that network and the iPhone on a second authorised network before resetting settings.
Resetting networks removes saved Wi-Fi connections and passwords and other network settings. Do not delete an eSIM or work profiles as an initial diagnostic step.
Which situation matches yours?
Let’s go step by step.
0 of 5 checks completedMark each check to keep track during this visit.
Confirm the state in Settings
Open Settings → Wi-Fi and inspect the selected network. Record the exact error. Move closer to the router and check whether Airplane Mode explains the state. Do not rely only on a saved webpage.
A rejected password differs from connection without Internet.
Compare another device on the network
Open the same site on another connected phone or computer. On public Wi-Fi, ask the venue whether a sign-in portal is required.
If every device fails, start with the network or provider. Erasing iPhone settings does not explain that comparison.
Try a second authorised network
Connect the iPhone to another Wi-Fi network you can use. Keep the test website unchanged and record the result. Distinguish Wi-Fi from browsing through mobile data.
Working elsewhere narrows the investigation towards the first network without yet identifying the exact setting.
Restart the relevant devices
Save work and restart the iPhone normally. If you administer the router, restart it according to its manual after notifying other users. Avoid its factory-reset control.
Repeat the same test. Persistently greyed-out Wi-Fi is useful information for Apple.
Consider advanced settings last
Ask the administrator about a managed VPN or profile. Apple places network reset after other solutions: preserve credentials and understand the lost settings before considering it.
Do not change VPN, router and network settings together. Get help if you cannot reconstruct the connection.
When to stop and ask for help
Contact Apple if no Wi-Fi network works or the control stays greyed out. When every device fails only on one network, contact that network’s provider or administrator.
Does a step differ from what you see? →Common questions
Does the Wi-Fi icon guarantee Internet?
No. Test a fresh webpage and the network’s access.
Does network reset delete photos?
It is not a photo-erasure command, but removes connection settings you may need to restore.
Should I remove a work VPN?
Ask the administrator. It may be required for organisational services.
