THE SHORT ANSWER

Start with this check.

Make a short recording without private information and check whether it contains sound. Compare it with the phone recorder, if available, and review WhatsApp access before changing networks.

Avoid private conversations in test recordings. This website does not activate your microphone. Do not clear WhatsApp data or install tools requesting access to your chats.

Mark each check to keep track during this visit.

01

Separate recording, sending and listening

With an informed contact or in your personal chat, prepare a short note. Check whether the timer starts and whether the recording contains sound before blaming the network. If only playback fails, investigate volume and output.

What to look for

A recording that already contains your voice confirms capture works, even if sending fails afterwards.

02

Check access to audio

In Settings → Apps → WhatsApp → Permissions, review Microphone. Also check that Android has not disabled this access globally. Manufacturer paths may differ; grant access only if you want to record.

What to look for

Return to WhatsApp and repeat the test. Permission alone does not establish that the device captures sound.

03

Compare a local recording

If your phone includes a recorder, record a few seconds of a test sentence and listen back. Keep the same position and accessories used with WhatsApp. Do not download an unfamiliar app merely for this comparison.

What to look for

If both recordings fail, investigate the phone or accessory. If only WhatsApp fails, keep that distinction for support.

04

Separate accessories from playback

Outside a call, temporarily disconnect Bluetooth headphones and repeat using the phone. For an existing note, also check whether playback was going to a different accessory. Reconnect what you need afterwards.

What to look for

Compare the recorded file, not just the volume heard through one device. An output change may explain apparently missing sound.

05

Review storage and test again

Check available storage and update WhatsApp through Google Play. End other calls, save your work and restart if the failure persists. Repeat the same sentence to keep the comparison useful.

What to look for

If no app can save recordings, address the phone problem first. Repeated reinstalls without a diagnosis do not isolate the cause.

When to stop and ask for help

If the phone recorder also fails, contact the manufacturer with your model and test result. If only WhatsApp fails, report its version, any warning and whether accessories were disconnected. Do not dismantle the phone or insert objects into its openings.

Common questions

Will changing Wi-Fi fix a silent recording?

That alone does not isolate audio capture. First check whether the recording contains your voice.

Why does the note play through my headphones?

A connected Bluetooth output may explain where playback goes. That is different from an empty recording.

Must I allow contacts or location?

Those are not the permissions this test investigates. Review audio access and avoid unrelated permission changes.
