THE SHORT ANSWER

Start with this check.

Open Settings and a photo stored on the phone. If both respond but websites do not, investigate the network. If local tasks also lag, review storage and recent installations.

Avoid optimisers promising to repair everything. Do not clear app storage without preserving its data. A factory reset removes information and is not one of these initial checks.

Mark each check to keep track during this visit.

01

Choose a repeatable comparison

Note how long Settings and a local photo take to open without a large download running. Compare a fresh webpage. After a phone migration, record whether apps are still restoring.

What to look for

Restoration changes the workload. Comparing different conditions can produce a misleading conclusion.

02

Review available storage

Find Storage in Settings and inspect the largest categories. Begin with downloaded files you can preserve or obtain again. Review individual items before deleting them.

What to look for

Freed capacity matters to this investigation if the chosen task improves. Storage capacity is different from working memory.

03

Update and restart normally

Save work, check app updates in Play Store and system updates in Settings. Restart using the normal model-specific process. Repeat the chosen task after startup completes.

What to look for

Record whether improvement lasts or the lag returns when one particular app opens.

04

Investigate one app

If the issue began after an installation, review that app. Preserve needed content before uninstalling and comparing. Removing ten apps at once makes the cause harder to identify.

What to look for

Improvement after removing an app is more useful evidence than a cleaner’s unexplained score.

05

Compare safe mode if needed

Use manufacturer instructions to enter and leave safe mode. Downloaded apps are temporarily disabled, so compare an available local task. Note widget arrangements beforehand because they can change.

What to look for

If performance improves, return to normal mode and review recent apps individually. Safe mode alone does not name the cause.

When to stop and ask for help

If local tasks remain slow in safe mode, or heat and shutdowns occur, preserve data and contact the manufacturer with your comparisons. Avoid further deletion without a specific hypothesis.

Common questions

Must I constantly close every app?

That alone does not identify the cause. Compare one task and a suspected app.

Are clearing cache and clearing storage equivalent?

No. Read each option; clearing storage can remove app information and sessions.

Does a slow phone prove malware?

No. Storage, ongoing work, apps and hardware can also explain slowness.
