Start with this check.
Check connections and the outlet. Compare known-working compatible cables and adapters, changing one component at a time. Stop for liquid warnings, damage or excessive heat.
Keep needles, metal and liquids out of the port. Avoid damaged accessories and forcing connectors. Follow manufacturer guidance for moisture or thermal warnings before charging again.
Which situation matches yours?
Let’s go step by step.
0 of 5 checks completedMark each check to keep track during this visit.
Inspect without opening
Disconnect and examine cable, adapter and port under good light. Check whether the case obstructs the plug. Avoid scraping a port with damage, moisture or debris requiring intervention.
Visible physical trouble changes the priority from software settings to service.
Check the power source
Use a known-working outlet and connect the adapter directly. Seat both cable ends without force. Avoid using a USB hub as the initial reference.
If another outlet changes the result, record that before buying an accessory.
Change one component at a time
Try a known-compatible cable with the same adapter. Then compare another compatible adapter if needed. Do not test a visibly damaged accessory on a second phone.
The working combination helps separate cable, power source and phone.
Allow a depleted battery time
With no warnings or damage, leave the phone connected for the manufacturer’s recommended interval. Watch for a charging indicator rather than trying to start it every few seconds.
Indicators and timings vary by model. A deeply depleted device may not start immediately.
Separate charging and display
Try normal startup using model-specific instructions. If possible, call it from another phone to check for ringing with a black screen. If it starts, check whether percentage rises with the screen off.
Ringing without an image points towards the display and does not justify erasure. Keep comparisons for repair.
When to stop and ask for help
Arrange service if no compatible combination works, the port is loose, or damage, moisture or unusual temperature appears. Do not open an integrated battery to continue testing.
Does a step differ from what you see? →Common questions
Will a higher-wattage adapter always fix it?
No. Compatibility, cable and device condition matter.
Does a black screen mean a failed battery?
No. Check operation and charging signs before concluding that.
Can an app repair a port?
It cannot replace physical inspection of a connector or charging circuit.
