Start with this check.
Check cable, adapter and outlet. Follow temperature or liquid warnings if displayed. For a repeatable stopping percentage, review Battery and the charging options available on your model.
Do not force connectors or use damaged accessories. Keep objects and liquids out of the port. A liquid or heat warning needs its specific procedure rather than more charging power.
Which situation matches yours?
Let’s go step by step.
0 of 5 checks completedMark each check to keep track during this visit.
Identify the exact state
Record percentage, icon and warning text. Separate wired and wireless charging. Start with a compatible wired connection for comparison rather than switching multiple variables together.
A configured limit and receiving no power should not lead to the same fix.
Check external components
Inspect cable and adapter without opening them. Use a working outlet directly and check that the case does not obstruct the plug. Compare another compatible cable before also changing the adapter.
Record the combination that works instead of blaming the battery without evidence.
Allow charging without intensive use
With no damage or warnings, leave the iPhone connected without gaming, video or intensive navigation. Apple recommends allowing charging time before another startup attempt; consult its sequence for a black screen.
Check for a rising percentage under quiet conditions rather than simultaneous heavy consumption.
Review limits and temperature
In Settings → Battery, inspect the charging options offered by the model. Read any configured limit or optimisation message. Allow a hot phone to cool normally instead of forcing charging.
Options differ by model. Record the message before changing a battery-care setting deliberately selected earlier.
Verify after one change
Repeat with the identified accessory and screen off. For recurring failure, record model, version, warning and tested combination. Use the startup guide if the display remains black.
A charge icon without rising percentage needs further checking. A limit explained in Settings does not establish failure.
When to stop and ask for help
Arrange service for a damaged port, persistent warnings or no charging with compatible accessories. Do not open the iPhone or pay an app to physically repair its battery.
Does a step differ from what you see? →Common questions
Does stopping at 80% prove battery failure?
No. Check the message, temperature and model-specific charging options.
Does a computer port equal a wall adapter?
Available power can differ, especially when shared with other devices.
Will restarting erase photos?
Restarting is different from resetting. Do not select erasure to investigate charging.
