Start with this check.
Record the error, verify the address and try another known site. Open the original in another browser. For Chrome-only failure, compare Incognito before deleting data.
Do not bypass certificate warnings or disable antivirus, work proxy or VPN to force a connection. Removing cookies can sign you out and remove preferences; preserve access first.
Which situation matches yours?
Let’s go step by step.
0 of 5 checks completedMark each check to keep track during this visit.
Check URL and error
Verify the entered address and reload once. Record the exact code without sharing private token-bearing links. Try another known page to separate one failing site from general connectivity.
A wrong address or unavailable service is not fixed by clearing the entire browser.
Compare another browser and network
Open the same page in another installed browser. If it also fails, inspect connectivity and any network sign-in portal. Compare another authorised connection where available while keeping the site unchanged.
The site/browser/network comparison prevents changing three settings without evidence.
Update and reduce open work
Save forms, check Help → About Google Chrome and relaunch when requested. Close unnecessary tabs for loading or memory errors.
Check whether a lighter session opens the same page.
Use Incognito as a comparison
Try the address in an Incognito window if the service supports it. Some pages require sign-in or prohibit that mode. Success points towards session data or extensions without identifying a single cause.
Signed-out public access is not an equivalent test of private signed-in content.
Review a specific extension or site
If evidence points to Chrome, review extensions and temporarily disable one suspect at a time. Before deleting data, focus on the affected site and confirm you can sign in again. Ask the administrator on managed devices.
Document the extension or change producing a difference instead of deleting passwords or all sessions.
When to stop and ask for help
Keep the message and contact the responsible provider for certificate warnings, organisational blocks or failures across networks. Do not publish credentials or session information when seeking help.
Does a step differ from what you see? →Common questions
Does Incognito repair Chrome?
It is a temporary comparison, not proof or correction of the underlying cause.
Does ERR_CONNECTION_RESET always mean malware?
No. The code does not identify a unique cause; compare connection, site and browser.
Should I delete all history?
Not initially. Establish scope and differences before removing data.
